Frank Phélan comes from a plot of 15 hectares of old vines and young vines of Phélan. It is a very elegant wine, just extracted. It has aromas of mocha, spices and black fruits. The palate is balanced, with a very nice acidity, black fruits still like blackcurrant and a nice roundness brought to the whole thanks to the merlot. A wine to be enjoyed after 2 to 8 years of care.
The history of the Château goes back to the beginning of the 19th century when Bernard Phelan, an Irish merchant based in Bordeaux, acquired two estates: the Clos de Gamarey (acquired in 1805) and the Ségur de Cabanac estate (acquired in 1810) which will give the Château Phelan-Segur. In 1985, Xavier Gardinier bought it from the Dedon family and today he is in charge with his three sons Thierry, Stéphane and Laurent. The Château Phélan-Ségur vineyard extends over the eastern part of Saint-Estèphe and has 90 hectares of vines planted on a soil composed of gravels covered with clay sand and a limestone subsoil. The castle pays particular attention to its breeding, looking for maximum finesse and elegance.
